Section Title

The American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend home births, as there is a 2 to 3 fold increase in infant mortality and accredited birth centers are recommended per their policy statement. Regardless, the providers at Buckley Road Pediatrics will accept patients delivered via a planned home birth under the following circumstances:

  1. Births must be attended by a qualified individual licensed in NY (i.e. midwife, NP, etc.)

  2. The standard of care given during a typical hospital visit would be followed:

    1. Vitamin K shot

    2. Newborn screen done

    3. Hearing and oximetry done

    4. Jaundice level sent after 24-hours of life

  3. Records of the birth must be available and sent to the office

  4. The patient must follow up to establish care within the first 3-4 days of life (like a typical newborn would after hospital discharge). We understand that some midwives will offer to monitor the child for the first  1-2 months, but we require you to establish care with us in order to accept the baby as a patient.
